Record Store Day 2025 underscored the ongoing revival of vinyl records. In 2024, vinyl sales reached $1.4 billion, surpassing CD sales with 44 million records sold compared to 33 million CDs. This trend reflects a growing appreciation for the tangible and immersive experience that vinyl offers, a sentiment that Record Store Day continues to champion. Here is everything you need to know about Record Store Day 2025.
Independent record stores across the country transformed into hubs of celebration, offering more than just exclusive records. In the Bay Area (California), for instance, shops hosted giveaways, exclusive discounts, food vendors, and free drinks, creating a festive atmosphere that drew in both seasoned collectors and curious newcomers.
Here at ‘SluttyVinyl’, we decided to spend this special day at ‘Rasputin’, the Bay Area’s largest record store chain. Founded in 1971, Rasputin’s has been a staple for music and entertainment lovers for decades.
the experience

Rasputin’s Pleasant Hill location was very busy with traffic coming in to patronize the special day. Their wide variety of various entertainment mediums such as blu-ray discs, cds, vinyl, clothing and posters makes it very easy to lose track of time from browsing. The vinyl selection alone will make any collector jump with glee. From Classical to Hip-Hop, the vinyl section is well diverse with artists of all genres and art forms.

The staff working were very nice and cordial as well. They were more than willing to help and had pleasant demeanors. The store was also very organized and neatly catalogued.
After a tough decision, we chose two vinyl records to celebrate the day. Although happy with the choices, we MUST iterate that it was very difficult to cycle down our vinyl picks to just two. The two classic albums by two iconic artists are well voted within the music community.

conclusion
As the vinyl community looks forward to future Record Store Days, the event’s success in 2025 serves as a reminder of the enduring appeal of physical music formats and the vital role of independent record stores in nurturing music culture. ‘Rasputin’ did not disappoint and made the day even more memorable with anticipation for next year’s festivities.
